In May 2016, Alan Anderson was approached to collaborate and create a ONE OF A KIND denim jacket for the National Ballet of Canada’s MAD HOT GALA — a tribute to Canada’s prima ballerina, Karen Kain.
With Swarovski as a sponsor, Alan and his team began the embellishment process. The inspiration directing Alan’s vision for this project was 1980s Yves St. Laurent couture — the heavily beaded and embroidered evening jackets of St. Laurent’s collections.
The jacket took Alan and an assistant over 116 hours of hand work to create, and incorporated over 10,000 Swarovski fancy Austrian crystals. The stones were used to create intricate floral sprays and when finished, the heavily decorated jacket weighed more than fifteen pounds! As with all Alan Anderson jewellry creations, Alan signed the finished jacket with his signature cartouche.
The wonderfully glamorous Sylvia Mantella was the successful bidder in an intense silent auction, and generously invited Jewels by Alan Anderson to photograph the jacket, worn in her home.
