A Rare Resource

Throughout history, the fashion world has used rare resources to create beautiful fashion. Wearing these resources has always been something that people want, crave, and enjoy.

In the Tudor era, the black pigment in clothes was a must-have item. A rich dark black was the hardest pigment to achieve, and portraits of the day show mainly dark black clothing. Why not be painted in your best?

In Victorian times intense colour was the most sought-after fashion. Indigo blue was grown with intensive labour to create a true bright blue. Greens and pinks were the colours of the most fashionable. Unfortunately, the techniques to achieve them were toxic. But the colours were bright!!

Around the turn of the 20th Century, people wanted an accessible glittering stone other than gemstones, to use in “fashion” jewellery. An Austrian with the last name of Swarovski invented a technique to create perfectly faceted, beautiful glittering crystals that made costume jewellery accessible to the world. For over a hundred years the name of Swarovski has been the benchmark for the best quality of crystals for fashion jewellery.

Hunting for treasure.

Hunting for treasure.

I have always tried as a designer to source the best materials available to create the pieces that I create. Vintage packages of beautiful Swarovski crystals have been my choice of materials, and over the last 24 years, I’ve been very lucky to find them all over the world, and purchase the best offered.

The world changed for jewellery design over the last year with a corporate direction change at Swarovski. Crystals will not be sold to ANYONE worldwide. Think about that. Vintage Swarovski is now a rare resource, more than ever before.

To ensure that I will always be able to create beautiful couture pieces of jewellery, I immediately contacted various people who deal in vintage stones, and have collected as much beautiful raw material as I can. Cuts and colours of amazing vintage crystal that will never be made again. Some in packages over 80 years old, still sparkling as beautifully as the day they were created.

That is what makes a resource rare. And why I will be able to create couture jewellery for years to come. I promise we will always sparkle together.
